Amedeo Modigliani painted mainly portraits and nudes. Famous examples include portraits of 'Jeanne Hébuterne' (his wife), 'Seated Nude', portrait of 'Juan Gris' and 'The Servant Girl'. It is difficult to rank Modigliani into one artistic style, but Expressionism probably best describes it.

| Interesting |
Amedeo Modigliani is seen as a 'peintre maudit' (literal translation: 'doomed painter'). A peintre maudit is a painter that never had much success during his life, often leading to the abuse of alcohol and drugs. Amedeo Modigliani however is in good company because Rembrandt as well as Vincent van Gogh are other great examples of artists who died in poverty.
In 2004 a movie about the life of Amedeo Modigliani appeared in cinemas all over the world with moderate success. The movie, directed by Mick Davis, told the story of Amedeo Modigliani's life including his rivalry with Pablo Picasso and his romance with Jeanne Hébuterne.
