| Interesting |
Barnett Newman never really received the attention he deserved. He never reached the same status other important American Abstract Expressionists, such as Jackson Pollock, did.
Barnett Newman’s paintings are deceptively simple.Although they can be ‘seen’ very quickly it takestime to appreciate their subtlety. The effects of scaleand variety of surface quality cannot be appreciatedin reproduction, and the impact of standing close tothem for a period of time should not beunderestimated. While this demands patience, the effects that the paintings rely on, including the retinal images of the ‘zip’s’ which scan across the colour fields, are worth waiting for. | |
