Interesting Berthe Morisot was the first female painter to be accepted by the French Impressionists. In this art group, Morisot became good friends with Edouard Manet who was a great influence on her work and even became her brother-in-law in 1874.

Because it was rather difficult or even close to impossible for a woman to receive decent art lessons, Berthe Morisot started out with painting by copying famous works at the Louvre.
