Ernest Lawson was born on March 22, 1873 in Halifax (Canada).
He was a part of a group of New York artists known as 'The Eight'. Working in a pure Impressionist style, his works often featured the urban landscape of New York. Lawson studied at the Art Students League in New York City. Following brief study in Paris, he stayed close to his home near Washington Heights. Quite in contrast to the other members of 'the eight', who were all social realists, Lawson was the only member who exhibited pure landscapes.
Ernest Lawson died on December 18, 1939 in Miami Beach, Florida.
