Paintings Giuseppe Arcimboldo's art is surrealistic to say the least, if not that he lived about 400 year than the other surrealists. Giuseppe used very common objects, such as fruits and vegetables, and used them to form the faces of humans. Great examples include 'Summer', 'Spring', 'Autumn', 'Winter', 'Fire', 'Earth', 'The Librarian' and 'Vertumnus'. Giuseppe Arcimboldo also invented the drawing which turned upside down resembles another image. A painting he did in this manner is 'The Cook'.

Interesting There is a lot of humour in the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo. For instance if you turn his painting 'The Cook' upside down, you will notice another image arising.

Arcimboldo's art didn't go unnoticed during his life and he became very famous. However it is rather bizarre that nowadays people have generally forgotten about this Surrealist avant-la-lettre.
