Kees van Dongen had settled in Paris from the year 1900 and he received the French nationality in 1929.
Kees van Dongen was a popular man and a succesful painter in Paris. He was also known for the many flamboyant parties he threw in his workshop. These parties were the place to be for famous painters, politicians, movie stars and writers. It was on one of these parties that he met Brigitte Bardot, who would later become his most famous model.
