It is difficult to classify Maurice Prendergast in one art movement. Prendergast was obviously influence by Impressionism, but also has a lot of Post-Impressionist characteristics in his works. Famous titles of Prendergast's paintings are 'Umbrellas in the Rain', 'Four Dancers', 'Central Park', 'Rialto Bridge' and 'Spring Flowers'. More Maurice Prendergast paintings... |

Unlike many other artists, Maurice Prendergast didn't receive a formal art training when he was young. His parents weren't rich and Maurice Prendergast had to start working when he was 14.
Again unlike many other artists, Prendergast best works weren't his latest. His marvellous paintings of Venice, only painted shortly after he quit his daily job as an illustrator to become a full time painter, are amongst his most appreciated work.
Maurice and his younger brother, Charles Prendergast, created several works together.
Maurice Prendergast's painting 'Promenade' sold for 1 900 000 $ at an auction.
