Interesting Michelangelo, like many of the High Renaissance masters, was a man of multiple disciplines. For example he was allowed to tudy anatomy on cadavers, which was forbidden at that time. Tnese studies obviously helped him in creating his latter works.

The Pietà is the only work signed by Michelangelo, who, frustrated by confusion regarding authorship of the sculpture, sneaked into Saint Peter's Basilica late at night and carved his name on the work.

Michelangelo was a celebrated poet during his lifetime: About 300 of his poems survived.

The restoration of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was completed in 1989, revealing an intensity of color that surprised many art historians, and sparking a renewed global interest in Michelangelo's work.
