Rubens' compositions are always very complicated and well studied. Geometrical figures for balancing purposes can be found in all of Rubens' work. Examples of titles are 'Madonna and Child', 'Descent from the Cross' and 'Raising of the Cross'.

Rubens' father was a successful lawyer in Antwerp, but as a Protestant in a Roman Catholic domain was forced into exile to avoid religious persecution.
By 1630, Rubens had become prosperous, and purchased a country estate outside Antwerp that became the subject of his later landscapes.
Rubens had many pupils that also became excellent baroque masters.
Sir Anthony van Dyck for instance, whom he called "my best pupil".
