Pierre-Auguste Cot was born on February 17, 1837. After his formal art education at "l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse", he moved to the heart of the artistic world: Paris. In Paris he has been the apprentice of Léon Cogniet, Alexandre Cabanel and William Bouguereau.
From 1870 on, his popularity immensely grew. In 1874 he received the title 'Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur'. He was also asked to be a jury member of the painting festivals Salon de Paris and the Prix de Rome.
Pierre-Auguste Cot died in the year 1883 in Bédarieux.
