Many contemporary art critics consider Roy Lichtenstein the worst American artist ever, or even say that he is not worthy of the title of artist. But isn't the controversy that he arouses a sign that he truly is a great artist?
When Roy Lichtenstein's son showed him a picture of Mickey Mouse and said to him that his father probably could not paint something that beautiful, the challenge was on. This small incidental moment was one of the factors leading to the development of Lichtenstein's typical pop art style.
