| Quote | "In my case, I used the elements of these simple forms - square, cube, line and color - to produce logical systems. Most of these systems were finite; that is, they were complete using all possible variations. This kept them simple."

| Interesting |
Sol LeWitt is considered to be the founder of minimal and conceptual art. What LeWitt found important is that the art itself tells the message, not the (personality of the) artist behind the art.
Sol LeWitt in his young years spend a year as a graphic designer at the office of the (at the time also young) architect I.M Pei. After that he took a job at the book counter at the Museum of Modern Art, where he met other young artists with odd jobs there, including Dan Flavin, Robert Ryman and Robert Mangold. He noticed the nascent works of Flavin and also absorbed early art by Jasper Johns and Frank Stella.
