| Quote | "As for me, I am rather often uneasy in my mind, because I think that my life has not been calm enough; all those bitter disappointments, adversities, changes keep me from developing fully and naturally in my artistic career."

Although several of the paintings of Vincent van Gogh were sold for over 50 million dollars, van Gogh didn't quiet get rich from his art. As often with an artist of his calibre, van Gogh's art wasn't understood nor appreciated in his days. He only sold one painting, The Red Vineyard, for 350-400 francs.
Vincent van Gogh is also very well known for cutting of his ear. In fact, in an act of crazyness after a fight with roommate and friend Paul Gauguin he did actually cut off the lower part of his left ear and offered it to a prostitute as a gift. On several self-portraits you might notice that on self portraits it's always the right ear of Vincent van Gogh that is bandaged. Why that is, is as clear as your own reflection in the mirror...
Van Gogh often looked for inspiration in a liquor called Absinthe. This is a dangerous
narcotic drink that was very popular in France in the
late 19th century. Also different sources mention van
Gogh would have, at least, some sort of epilepsy.
