Joseph Mallord William Turner has a British prize named after him: the Turner Prize. The Turner Prize is an annual prize given to a British visual artist under 50, organised by the Tate Art Gallery. It has become Britain's most publicised art award.
Already in his early youth, William Turner became a good friend of the lesser known fellow Romanticism painter Thomas Girtin.
