Elevation from the Cross by Rubens: detail

Assumption of the Virgin by Peter Paul Rubens

This is a picture I took myself, and it shows. Cameraphones, bad lighting in the church and a painting up high in the sky… I did notice something interesting though, the side panels were also painted on the back. I haven’t really visited enough museums to know whether that is commonly done, but I seriously doubt it. Nobody else seemed to notice it. The painting is available for view in “The Cathedral” in my hometown Antwerp. We like do make things as easy as possible, so we just name our cathedral “The Cathedral”.

And for those that like decent quality, here’s a scan of the center panel from The Elevation from the Cross by Peter Paul Rubens.
