It sold at four times its top estimate, taking 2.4 million pounds pre-commission and setting a record for the artist, whose collectors include hedge-fund managers. His previous auction record was $144,000.
This work was inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights by the Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch.
