Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Pablo Picasso
Exhibited in New York (USA), The Museum of Modern Art

Original Dimensions: 244 x 233 cm

Today this painting probably is honoured as being the most important painting in modern art history. However it only became so well known in 1938 when the MoMA acquired Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.

With this work Picasso definitively broke with his own past and made a name for himself as the leader of the avantgard. This painting is the beginning of modern art, and as you can see it contains some typical cubism attributes.
